How to set up an email client on WizTech hosting

If you are wanting to access your email via pop using an email client or to pull in pop email via gmail, yahoo etc, using mail.yourdomain as the incoming and outgoing servers is the least problematic.

(I still always suggest using your ISP (Internet Service Provider), for outgoing mail if possible but ISP's are starting to block their customers from being able to use their email system to get emails from outside their system. But even if you able to use the ISP, be aware that they could cut off that ability at any time.)

The port numbers should work on default settings so you shouldn't need to change those.

It is SSL accessed so there should be a checkbox somewhere for that. When you first try to access the server, a box or two should pop up that says the ssl certificate is nonexistent or invalid. Simply continue clicking through the messages and be sure to check that you want to save this permanently. (ssl access may not be required in the future and hopefully I'll change these instructions accordingly. If you aren't sure, just ask.)

Also, deleting the emails off the server is a must. You can do that by setting the mail account to delete the emails on the server once they are downloaded. We have set few restrictions on quotas our servers. Please be courteous and not allow your email accounts to grow indefinitely.  You may be requested to empty out really large accounts if we discover them.

Alternatives:

You should have a backup system in place - either being able to use the email your ISP gave you initially or with a free online email account like gmail. I don't advise using hotmail or yahoo - gmail is less likely to get hacked.

You can use something like gmail instead of an email client. This is my preference for my business as your emails are saved "in the cloud" and do not depend on your computer, your software or continuing access to webmail on one server. Sometimes when you change hosting, you lose all server emails so you should be either using a email client and or an online email provider to save emails.

Gmail allows you to show alternative email addresses so that your customers may never realize you are using any email besides your_account@your_domain.

Server webmail can be handy for small accounts. That is accessible via http://your_domain_name/ webmail. Just remember that in times of crisis (which should be extremely unoften), being able to look at your email without going to your website is a really good thing!
